Alin Neamtu wrote this post at 12:57 am: It is said that the Croatian people are cold and closed. I felt that the street traffic in stores. Years of war have been cooler. They still stuck with many memories of war with the Serbs. Yet, beyond the exterior curtain can discover a warmth unique surprise. And our host says "the serbs have the power, But we have the heart." So I started my first evening in central Dalmatia, in Makarska , Croatia.
Ivan owns residence Opacak Mlinice . He lived in Sweden and speaks excellent English. He returned after six years and built Mlinice with his hands, with much sweat. He speaks with pride about his villa. Is and why. Mlinice residence is located on the mountain ridge, halfway between sea and slope. The villa is surrounded by a small olive grove and surrounded by a belt of pines. The view is superb, you can see the entire resort, the extent of the sea islands of Hvar and Brac and located off the Riviera. The residence has several apartments and rooms located on two levels. Some rooms have sea views but the best are those without the sea because they are cooler. At ground floor is an excellent traditional restaurant, Konoba.
Ivan had many women in his life. He lived with each time and was fair to them. But no luck. Until he met Zora. At 46 years old is in love again and enjoy his girlfriend as a teenager. I watch are together at the table, hold hands and kiss from time to time, he also less shy, confident woman who feels loved. They are young. I tell them that. He thanks me with happy eyes.
In heartfelt evenings spent there Ivan told us about the hardships tourism in the area, about non-involvement of the authorities about his relatives Herzegovina, about love and war. All over a glass of white wine of Dalmatia. I would shoot nude stories Zora, but I better stop here.
On the ground works Konoba Mlinice residence, a traditional restaurant decorated with old handicrafts and wooden furniture. Granite Teo, owner of the restaurant we are greeted with a smile. We prepared an hour before peka a traditional Croatian food.
Teo fought the war with the Serbs even around Dubrovnik. For days without sleep, only with bullets hissing over his head, lived moments of war. Says with tears in his eyes went back as a 26 year old woman injured, not less than three kilometers. Try to save. He talked with her all the time so they got to know well before the end of the road. Physically exhausted, he was happy that he managed to get her to the medical, a doctor. Finally ... and in that time she died. The story impressed us and I was silent a moment.
Teo comes from a family of fishermen. He remembers with sadness his childhood when his father sent him to school in the morning and then late night fishing. He had a difficult childhood. But now the family lives in a beautiful granite villa in Promajna, a village near Makarska. The villa is modern, two-storey, newly built. Teo lives with his wife, Natasha and one of their daughters. Natasha is a beautiful woman. 42 years old but can not give more than 30. Both spouses are young, happy and love life. And their dog, Bull. Teo has two children. One of them has inherited his passion for fishing. At 16, the youngest professional fisherman around Makarska Riviera. His life is great. If the weather is bad and can not go offshore a few days, stay at home and is very depressed, says Teo.
Makarska is a complete resort. The beach stretches over more than 2 km, the right rocks and pine forests. The atmosphere is idyllic. Reveals steep bank small place where you can sunbathe, out of harm. Mountainous area of Makarska it is a nature reserve, national park Biokovo. A few miles on the slope to reach Sveti Jure peak, located at 1762 m above sea level. The above is seen throughout Croatia. Locals say that on clear days you can even see Italy. The scenery is grand, considering how steep is the mountain.
Two hours drive is Dubrovnik. Called the Pearl of the Adriatic, the city is a city with impressive architecture and grandeur. The city was destroyed by war and later rebuilt. Guarded by high walls that go down to the sea, it is the favorite destination of tourists in southern Dalmatia.
It is said that the Croatian people are cold and closed. I may have luck, but I know the opposite. Jiveli!
